Artists of the Company

San Francisco Ballet, March 5, 6, 2011
War Memorial Opera House, San Franciso, California

Choreographers MacMillan and Forsythe and Possokhov and Tomasson and Balanchine.

We should all be as fortunate as Tomasson to have ballerinas Maria Kochetkova and Vanessa Zahorian star in our creations.

Tomasson's "Trio" to Tchaikovsky's "souviner de florence" was the surprise delight of the weekend, but macmillan's russian narrative ballet and Tomasson's Kurt Weill-inspired one-act story ballet anchored the performances. Forsythe was prickly and Possokhov and Balanchine pure confections.

Although I go to ballet to see the ballerinas, it must be noted that the male dancers at San Francisco Ballet are thrilling.
