Concrete Blueprint

It’s not only the Legion of Indecency
Comin’ thru the rye
Going through the grieving process
Or going through the trash bins,
Nineteen to the dozen.
It’s not only the hearings being held,
The little somethings being slid,
Lobos howling sincerest condolences remotely,
Contemplatives raging on the blockchain.

And it’s not just a hype cycle of traffic en masse,
A bunch of bare URLs suffering link rot,
Inventors stripped naked of their patents,
Doctors stripped naked of their patients,
Custody battles waged between new music lovers--
Don’t say hi wear pitted against
I’m not talking to you wear
During monitored visitations.
No, the bigger story would be

We’re now learning three lines of code
More valuable than the GDP of most countries
Is what it’s gonna take
To bring this thing
Down a bar or two.
Seems like everyone needs
The miracle healing crusade ware,
Even the fully vaccinated:
You don’t know where they’ve been.

Half and Half

You know I mean look.
Light carbon footprint, light digital footprint,
Sitting around on my gain of function,
Double or nothing to do.
People float by fishing
From the highest number
Of hot air balloons
Since last February.
Too much salt candy,
Too few layers of sun block,
Belt three sizes too big
But still wrapped around the state of Arkansas.

I guess what I’m thinking is
Unlimited free shipping
Is core to a healthy model.
Positively ideal.
The best mistakes to learn from are the mistakes made by other people.
Easy returns are a sexy fever dream.
Great gifts make memorable holidays.
Disturbed people are not endearing. Disturbed people are disturbed.
Without a frame there would be no window.
Projects with deadlines furthest into the future,
Half brick and mortar, half cyberspace,
Have the best chances for on-time completion.

Grubhub Appointed to SCOTUS

Carpenter culottes, surfboard company tee.
She looks like Frida Kahlo.
Her name is Friday Kahlo.
She thinks it’s funny I’m the one
Who lives on Indian School Road.

Planet Earth was made for Friday.
Everything at her garbage disposal,
Short list, long list,
Contact tracing,
Lease to own.

Two, three, four
Times a day I ask her
Is it safe anymore to create art on our own terms?
She always answers my question with
Is Kokopelli back with the Packers?

Reaffirming the right to dream big,
The right to turn left,
The right to double click,
The right to hit send.
The right to have food delivered to your door.

Choice Bits (a continuing series)

Skeletons Fighting Over a Pickled Herring, by James Ensor

Choice Bits are, as Gary Lutz pointed out, “by writers who recognized the sentence as the one true theater of endeavor, as the place where writing comes to a point and attains its ultimacy.”

Kit Robinson

Idle hands get/big ideas...

Virginia Woolf

…the peculiar repulsiveness of those who dabble their fingers self approvingly in the stuff of others’ souls…

Brian Evenson

Maybe she’s dead, he thought hopefully.

Robert Louis Stevenson

Mirth, lyric mirth, and a vivacious classical contentment are of the very essence of the better kind of art…None can care for literature in itself who do not take a special pleasure in the sound of names; and there is no part of the world where nomenclature is so rich, poetical, humorous, and picturesque as the United States of America. All times, races, and languages have brought their contribution.

Patricia Lockwood

She sat in a compartment with a babyish Czech couple who were trying to climb into each other’s eyes, hands, mouths.  Every few minutes the girl would pick up her boyfriend’s wrist and kiss it as if she were eating the season’s first strawberry, and then release a flood of tender and penetrating Czech directly into his face.

Harmony Holiday

Loaf  of    red    lipstick

BONUS BIT

Cat's foot iron claw
Neuro-surgeons scream for more
At paranoia's poison door
Twenty first century schizoid man

Blood rack barbed wire
Politicians' funeral pyre
Innocents raped with napalm fire
Twenty first century schizoid man

Death seed blind man's greed
Poets' starving children bleed
Nothing he's got he really needs
Twenty first century schizoid man

From Tautology to Contradiction: fantasy on a schema by Ludwig Wittgenstein

If p then p,
And if q then q.
Not both
p and q.

Or if q then p.
Not q.
If p then q.
Not p.

And if q then
Not p, and
If p
Not q

Then p or q.
Or q and p.
Or if p then q
Then q if p.

Where's Home?

Out of her longtang,
Out of her hood,
Out of her vecindad,
Using altar cloths to wipe down cars
Like horses. At the end of the day,
On the way to the TV that feels like home,
The bus rolls by the dream factory that brought you
Happy Hayes the Tail Up Dog!

Let’s kinda talk about her ex
To the teenager she then was,
A total mystery.
And then the man she left him for,
X to the second power.
The human part of animal is all but gone
By the time you’re living by the creek.
The nights are oddly themed.

Now every next morning, fugacious,
Where she live at.
New sign: Keep Gate Locked.
Helicopter rattles the house
Which rattles the stove top
Which rattles the burner covers.
Thank God for school meal programs.
Take care the children.

This Good Joe Fox America Today and Morning
Proving you must not really understand pressure
Until you’ve been on national television.
Swooning over war criminals.
Ellen and Jimmy will show you how.
So screw your courage to the media hitching post.
Get Clorox clean in minutes.
Or they’ll send you back.

Statements Taken at the Scene

How many were there?

Two tillers, a teller, a ten o’clock sculler,
Speaking Russian, too, or Spanish, one,
(With Chinese and Arabic subtitles).
Plus, a rapper, a ripper, a bagger, a tagger
And more than a few antibodies dressed in gaming gear,
Ballers, bipoc and white, alike,
Feral hypertrophy winners,
And an orbital sander crying for its mama.

Which way did they go?

Toward the tsunami hazard zone
Where the reversible pier
Goes over the saltwater marsh
Near the mothballed nuclear power plant.
I mean listen.
Let’s be honest.
I love the notion of casino night
But there never was a where.

Did you notice anything else?

Yes I noticed how funny I felt,
Like an Uzbek hikkomori based in Ottawa,
Or a chief public policy officer
Emerging from the margins
To subvert the colonialist order of modernity
Only to be confounded by range of motion issues
While staggering into minimalism
Because there was no 7-Eleven nearby.

Thoughtful Inquiry

You know we have a little bit of time left,
The horses are being loaded into the starting gate
In recondite fashion,
And here’s why that’s so
Ultra super important.

I just wanted to interrogate the idea of
Molecular cis-acting regulatory RNA sequencers
Coming out of nowhere and at twice the speed of sound
Which woulda blew up the whole Roswell thing,
Defcon to Dari-Delite.

But the volcano imposed an early curfew.
Zeno’s paradox kept me half the distance to the goal line,
And I’m not blue enough to sing the blues.
My real name is only just now taking effect
Like a full moon emerging from the clouds.

Have you ever seen a meme walking?
There’s four of them went in together
On what’s more and more starting
To look like it’s going to be a kind of
Screened at Cannes power grab of sorts.

But you know the thing is
Is the more they jiggle the camera,
Marx once quipped
With lens firmly in cheek,
The more trending it all is.

So me I’m kind of staying on the low end of high
Performance, publishing my passions,
“Mistakes in real time” per Patricia Lockwood.
Sincere condolences for the direct eye contact
But, how do you expect the markets to react?

MORNING

On the trail I encountered
A white girl, high school age, in running gear,
Further on, a black man, older, walking a dog.
The man said he was blessed
When I asked how he was.

I STARE DINTOO SPACE

Dandelions was rocking bees.
Dogs was trampolining,
Blue and red heelers trampolining.
There was a pair of parrots.

I said to myself I said
I didn’t know parrots could take off their
Chonklas so fast and aim like that,
From all cosmic angles.
