COINCIDENCE

At the Lounge Above and Beyond,
In between the collision center and memory care,
The hideout I retreated to after every shift,
The bartender had a boyfriend,
Big as day the devil's own nephew he was,
An existential threat to public safety,
Buying her jewelry, rings, necklaces.

But it was her idea to serve me wine in a glass tumbler.
And that I should go back to school.
I said wherever you went to school is where I want to go.
The mechanic who worked on my car, same with her.
I said wherever you went to school is where I want to go.
And, coincidentally, they both had graduated from the same school.
So that’s where I went ahead and graduated from.
